Thanks to its high clamping force, the Concentric Vise enables fast operations. With its repeatability and centering precision, it offers long-term use within tight tolerances. Additionally, thanks to a wide range of options, it provides a flexible working area.
Concentric vises are widely used in precision machining technologies and in serial production where repeatable, precise connections are required. These units play a powerful role in securely clamping precision components found in the automotive, aerospace, and aviation industries, quickly becoming an indispensable tool in modern manufacturing.
Hidrofix concentric vises stand at the forefront of the industry due to their high repeatability in all clamping applications that require precision. Hydraulic fixtures play a crucial role in securing parts that would otherwise be impossible to machine due to lack of external fixturing.
Hidrofix concentric vises can be used not only as standalone units but also as part of fixture equipment. Designed for easy integration into existing systems, these vises work seamlessly with all Hidrofix products such as LHS, DHS, and other compatible units.
Like all Hidrofix products, customers can choose from a range of optional features for concentric vises that are compatible with both automation systems and their own setups. These options include side or bottom hydraulic port entries only (based on the installation), placing air control ports at the bottom, and most importantly, clamping status sensors for automation systems , among others.
When a user realizes that a standard vise with conventional port positions cannot be integrated into their system, they seek a solution. Standard concentric vises typically feature dual ports—both side and bottom entries. When the side ports are not used, they must be sealed with plugs. However, these plugs may require dimensional adjustments on the vise itself.
Since efficiency is a top priority in automation, users often aim to fit as many vises as possible into limited spaces. When vises are placed side by side, protruding plugs can become an obstacle. As an optional preference, users can request that these unnecessary ports be eliminated entirely during manufacturing.
In some applications, verifying whether a part has properly seated within the system using compressed air is a preferred method. In standard concentric vises, air ports are usually used to clean chips from internal areas without disassembling the unit for maintenance.
However, in automation systems where it’s critical to detect whether a part is correctly seated, optional air control ports can be added. These ports can extend all the way to the jaw surface to perform this function effectively.
In automated environments, receiving feedback data confirming that clamping has occurred is crucial. Concentric vises can optionally provide an electronic signal indicating that the workpiece has been securely clamped. This feature is not included in standard models and is completely optional and custom-built.
Depending on the customer’s specific application and system requirements, longer vise models can be designed instead of standard units. Customers can request configurations with 3 to 6 vises integrated into a single housing .
For easier loading and unloading of workpieces, users can request and customize a longer jaw stroke distance beyond standard specifications.
Customers can also disregard standard models entirely and request a completely new concentric vise design that still meets the core standards of concentric vises: high precision and repeatability.
